PALISUMMER VBS 2015

Hello Pre-K (4) Families!

Welcome to our summer VBS program! My name is Miss Alice (김민지) and I will be the lead teacher for the PRE-K (4) class this summer. Please read through this blogpost carefully and thoroughly for it contains very important information about our summer school. (This information has already been sent out through email, if you have read the email then please know that you are already well-informed.)

I've been with this program for the past 3 summers, so I'm so delighted to come back again for the 4th time this year! I graduated in 2014 from the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers University, and I'm dually certified in Elementary Education (K-6th) with a specialization in Early Childhood Education (Prek-3rd). I have also just finished my first year of teaching as a 3rd grade teacher in Bartle Elementary School in Highland Park. I am passionate about becoming an effective, inspiring, and caring educator. I absolutely cannot wait until VBS starts and see everyone's bright and beautiful faces!

We have two (2) Assistant teachers this year: Miss Yeji, and Ms. Chung.

Ms. Chung is a member of the Palisades Church and currently is a teacher for the 3-4 year olds at the Palisades Church Korean School and also teaches at KCC. She also majored in industrial design and teaches art. Ms. Chung is very excited to come onboard this summer as a part of our staff, and she is looking forward to a fun-filled summer with our class!

From Miss Yeji:
Hello parents and guardians of the 2015 Palisades Summer VBS Class Pre-K4! My name is Yeji Kim and I will be one of the two assistant teachers working with Miss Alice this summer. I am currently a sophomore at Rutgers University of New Brunswick, majoring in English and Mathematics. My goal and passion is to build orphanages and schools in the United States for children who are underprivileged. I started as a volunteer for Pre-K (4) five years ago and have worked with Miss Alice for a total of three years and two of them, including this year, as a TA. It is my privilege and honor to be able to come back this year. I hope everyone is as excited as we are and I hope to see you very soon!

In order to have a successful 6 weeks, we need all the help from the parents that we can get! We ask for you to prepare a few items and bring it to school on the very first day (7/6).

* All items must be LABELED WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME and placed into a plastic container / shoe box (also labeled).

1. tissue box
2. 1 pack of baby wipes
3. glue stick
4. Art shirt - this shirt WILL get dirty!
5. change of clothes with underwear
6. sunscreen (if you have an extra bottle to keep at school)
7. sleeping bag (goes home every Friday for washing)
8. diapers (if necessary)
***These items will stay in school until the last day.

Please send these items to school everyday.
(ALL LABELED WITH CHILD'S NAME)
1. Backpack
2. Folder
3. Healthy Snack (No junk food and ABSOLUTELY NO NUTS! We are a nut-free class!!)
4. water bottle

On the first day of summer school, parents will also attend an orientation. There, you will find out more information about our summer school and will also be able to sign up to help out for lunch. Please check out the schedule and see which days you are available to help serve lunch. *If you are not able to volunteer your time during lunch, there is a $10 mandatory fee.

Any activities that require the class being transported by car/bus/van, we will need a booster/car seat. It is crucial that the booster/car seat is dropped off on the mornings of outdoor activities. These activities include trips to the library, playground/park, and field trips. If a car seat is not dropped off, the child cannot participate in the activity.

On field trip days, you will also need to pack your child a lunch. They will not be provided a lunch from us on days we go on field trips, so it is crucial that you remember to pack a bagged lunch for your child on these days.

Weekly announcements/updates for the upcoming week will be sent out on Thursdays so that you and your child can prepare for the next week's activities.
We will also be sending home forms/notices/announcements in your child's folder so please make sure you check your child's backpack and folder every night so that you can stay updated.

Thank you so much for your time, and I will see you all very soon! Remember, our first day is on Monday, July 6th.
